Ogoja/Yala Rep, Hon. Godwin Offiono Sponsors Two bills

Today in the House of Representatives plenary, the Honorable Member representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, Hon. Godwin Offiono, presented two Bills:

1. Bill for an Act to establish the School of Mines and Geological Studies Yala, Cross River State, 2023 (HB. 231). This Bill seeks to amongst others, provide: 

(a) for full time training courses in Geology and Mining and thus guaranty the diversification of Nigeria economy, wealth creation and employment and to make provision for the Administration of the School and for related matters. 

(b) to serve as a centre for research in fields of mining and geology;

(c) to meet the needs of Nigeria in the area of mining and geology and provide solutions to mining related problems, thus resulting in National development;

(d) to perform such other functions as in the opinion of the council that may serve to promote the objectives of the School. 

2. Bill for an Act to establish Commercial Agriculture Credit Scheme, 2023 (HB. 232). Which seeks to amongst others, provide:

(i) a regulatory framework for the Agriculture credit fund which shall promote commercial Agriculture in Nigeria, ensure credit support for production, storage and processing of target commodities, develop market and Agricultural enterprise and for other related matters.

(ii) to enhance national food security by increasing food supply and effecting lower agricultural produce and product prices, thereby promoting low food inflation; 

(iii) to reduce the cost of credit in agricultural production to enable farmers to exploit the potentials of the sector;

(iv) to increase output, generate employment, diversify the revenue base, increase foreign exchange earnings and provide input for the industrial sector on a sustainable basis. 

Both Bills passed through first reading today on the floor of the House of Representatives.
