The event 45 center stood still for the celebration of the birthday of the Speaker of the 10th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem Ekom, as friends, well wishers, political associates, loved ones, family members, the low, high and the mighty, turned out, to what looked like a carnival, but was the birthday celebration of a young man popularly called the “People’s Speaker.”
The hall was packed to capacity with dignitaries from all over the country who came celebrate with Mr Speaker, the Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem.
Addressing journalists on his arrival at the venue, the celebrant stated; “this is the first birthday in my entire life that I have ever celebrated. I am so amazed by the crowd and lack words to describe the show of love from all the people who have turned out to celebrate with me”.
The Speaker said he was encouraged by the overwhelming support of the people and expressed appreciation to his supporters.
He said he had committed the remaining part of his political life to God saying; “l know were am coming from, but I don’t know were l am going to, but I hand it to God.”
While proposing a toast for the celebrant, the Adviser to the Speaker and Member representing Abi State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Davies Etta, recalled the experience that brought them together as best of friends in the 9th Assembly.
Etta thereafter proposed a toast for the good health and long life of the celebrant as well as for good governance in the State.
The occasion was attended by the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, as well as that of Osun, the Rt. Hon. Adedebo Ogundayin. Members of the legislature from Akwa Ibom and the hosts Assembly, led by the Dep. Speaker, Hon Sylvester Agabi were also present.
