Rivers State House of Assembly Confirms 2 Wike Former aides, 6 other Commissioners-Designate

On Tuesday, the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, screened and confirmed eight commissioners-designate, including two former commissioners who served under the previous administration of Nyesom Wike. Dr. Peter Medee and Eloka Tasie-Amadi, who previously held the portfolios of Energy and Works commissioners, respectively, were given a swift approval after being asked to take a bow.

The other six nominees were questioned by the lawmakers and received a clean bill of health as commissioners-designate. The confirmation fills the vacancies created by the resignation of five pro-Wike commissioners last week, who cited a toxic work environment amid the feud between Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Speaker Oko-Jumbo charged the new commissioners-designate to work with Fubara to deliver democracy dividends to Rivers people. He advised the governor to remain focused on his mandate and avoid distractions, urging him to continue his good work without bias.

House Leader Sokari Goodboy commended the governor for nominating individuals of great repute, saying, “We are happy and proud of the nominees, who have impressive Curriculum Vitae.” The confirmation ensures the executive arm of the state is filled, and the new commissioners can contribute to the development of Rivers State.
