Nigeria’s Special Eagles Soar into Amputee AFCON Quarterfinals with Dominant 11-0 Win over Burundi

Nigeria’s men’s amputee football team, the Special Eagles, have secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Amputee AFCON in Egypt after a resounding 11-0 victory over Burundi in their final group game on Wednesday.

Striker Michael Jewell stole the show with an impressive seven goals, while Turkey-based Mohammad Grima scored a hat-trick and Olaa Buhachi added another goal, ensuring a comfortable win for the Special Eagles.

This convincing win secured the top spot in Group A for the Special Eagles, thanks to a superior goal difference over hosts Egypt. Nigeria will now face the second-placed team from Group B in the quarterfinals on Thursday night, with Liberia likely to finish behind Morocco in that group.

Seven countries that progress to the last eight will qualify for the 2026 Amputee World Cup in Morocco. Nigeria’s best performance at the Nations Cup was a second-place finish at the 2019 edition in Angola, where they lost 2-0 to the hosts in the final.
