C’River Speaker Bags Disability Award

 

The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem has been honoured with an award of excellence by the Association of Physically Challenged Staff of University of Calabar.

The Chairman of the Association Comrade Stephen Agbor said the award was in recognition of the Speaker’s commitment to People friendly legislation. He also conferred on the speaker the State Grand Patron of the Association.

The Chairman thanked the Assembly for the passage of the Disability Bill but requested for it implementation to allow for inauguration of the Disability Commission which is to be headed by disabled persons. He said the Commission will employed many disabled persons and give them a sense of belonging in the society.

Agbor also appealed for the Speaker’s assistance in hosting the Association’s national conference holding in Calabar with delegates from across the Country and congratulated Ayambem on his emergence as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly.

Responding Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem thank the Association for the award. He assured them that the State Government Senator Prince Bassey Otu will implement the disability bill as a people friendly Governor and congratulated them for choosing to work instead of begging for alms. He also promised to support them in their activities.
