Security operatives have taken control of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, the designated venue for the ongoing hunger protest. Despite initial denials, protesters were later restricted to the stadium by a court order obtained by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) authorities.
As protesters began to gather outside the stadium, police fired gunshots and teargas to disperse them. A second group of protesters was also dispersed, with security forces arresting anyone in sight, including journalists who were later released after identifying themselves.
Masked officials from the Department of State Services (DSS) arrived at the scene, mounting a post outside the stadium and preventing journalists and protesters from approaching the venue. The crackdown comes after the Chief of Defence Staff, Chris Musa, warned of military action if the situation escalated.
