Police Warn of Foreign Mercenaries Hijacking Planned Protest, Urge Caution

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has disclosed that intelligence reports indicate foreign mercenaries have been recruited to hijack the planned nationwide protest against economic hardship and cause damage in the country. He urged Nigerians to exercise caution and think twice before joining any protest group to prevent drawing the nation back.

Egbetokun warned that some individuals are promoting peaceful protests with violent undertones, raising concerns about their sincerity. He commended patriots who have withdrawn from the protest due to apparent sinister motives and ignorance of those calling for violence.

To ensure a peaceful and non-destructive protest, Egbetokun called on groups involved to submit their details to the Commissioners of Police in their respective states. He outlined measures to prevent hijacking by criminal elements and minimize the risk of violence, property damage, or other criminal activity.

The police will be available to protect protesters who cooperate with them and obey the law. Egbetokun recalled past violent protests, including the Endsars protest, and warned that violent protests result in increased violent crimes and insecurity. He urged Nigerians to be careful not to be misled and destroy their country.
