Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has appointed Major-General Adamu Garba Laka as the new National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, operating under the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The announcement came through a statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, released on Tuesday. The statement highlighted the approval of General Laka’s appointment, signalling a strategic shift in the leadership of the Counter-Terrorism Centre.

General Laka brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in various capacities in the North-East region of Nigeria. His tactical prowess has been instrumental in degrading terrorist groups operating in the region in previous years.

General Laka holds a Master’s Degree in National Security from the National Defence University, Pakistan, and in International Affairs and Strategic Studies, Nigerian Defence Academy

Ngelale stated that the President has high expectations for General Laka, urging him to leverage his wealth of experience to efficiently mitigate security threats through pre-emptive, proactive, and diligent counter-terrorism coordination.
