NPC Chairman Meets COAS to Discuss Security for 2023 Census

The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, fnsa, met with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, on Thursday to discuss security arrangements for the upcoming Population and Housing Census.

The meeting, which took place at the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Abuja, was part of the NPC’s ongoing strategic engagement with key stakeholders ahead of the census.

Kwarra briefed the COAS on the level of preparations for the 2023 census. He also solicited the support of the Nigerian Army in providing security cover for the field functionaries and materials during the exercise.

Lt. General Lagbaja assured Kwarra of the Nigerian Army’s readiness to support the NPC in its efforts to conduct a successful census. He also expressed the Army’s interest in collaborating with the NPC in other areas of interest beyond the census, such as border security and disaster management.

The meeting was a positive step towards ensuring the security of the upcoming census. The support of the Nigerian Army will be crucial to the success of the exercise, and the NPC is grateful for the COAS’s commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for the census.

However, the NPC is also working to address other challenges that could hinder the success of the census, such as funding and logistics. The Commission is confident that with the support of all stakeholders, the 2023 Population and Housing Census will be a success.
