The Honorable Member representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, Hon. Godwin Offiono, has admonished Ukelle Nation on the need to foster peace and unity for effective and seamless development of the region and Ogoja/Yala federal constituency in general.
The MP disclosed this on Wednesday, 9th August, 2023, during a meeting with a delegation from the Ukelle Development Forum, Abuja Chapter, in his National Assembly office. The Forum led by Barr. Alex Edim, was on a courtesy visit to the MP to once again congratulate him, and to brief him on the impending communal crisis among Benekaba, Adum, and Ujama communities of Ukelle in Yala LGA.
In his words, “There’s need for Ukelle sons and daughters, home and abroad to stay united irrespective of political, religious, clan and community affiliations. You’re the eye of those at home, you must be a symbol of peace and togetherness for those at home to emulate.”
The MP urged the delegation to move home and encourage the disputing communities to sheath their swords for dialogue, while he continues to interface with stakeholders of the communities to find sustainable solutions.
Speaking further, Hon. Offiono reiterated his desire to work equitably with every well meaning constituent of Ogoja/Yala “I will not be sentimental, divisive, etc. As I said before, I am holding this position in trust for all of you, this office is yours, feel free to come any time.”
The group commended the Member for his simplicity, openness, wisdom and receptiveness. They promised to go home, convey his message, and by God’s grace, put an end to the crisis.
