The Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem has assured Staff of his resolve to always be a moral booster for the effective discharge duties.
The Speaker gave the assurance when the Executive Members of Paltiamentary Staff Association, of Nigeria PASAN Cross River State Chapter, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Ayambem, maintained that the 10th Assembly is for the people, because he will work for the people, his words ” To Christen the 10th Assembly as the people’s Assembly is not by error, I did that because of my experience in last four years as Member, people will knock on your office asking for various assistance.
The Speaker noted that wealth is about reaching out to others around you, especially as a leader and not how much is in your account, adding that, “a wealthy leadership bring about healthy workforce.”
He therefore charge PASAN to come up with a white paper of all the request made to enable him consider them gradually, hoping that the administration will be good for everyone and stressed futher that the welfare of Staff is his personal priority.
Earlier in her address, tthe acting Chairman of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN Cross River State Chapter, Mrs Florence Celestine Ibeku, said the Association is glad to have Rt Hon. Elvert Ayambem as the Speaker.
The Chairman noted among other things that Parliamentary Staff from the National and other State Houses of Assembly have been enjoying welfare packages, ranging from the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure, CONLES, which is given to both Assembly Commission and Parliamentary Staff for over eleven years running, Cross River Assembly is lacking.
Ibeku, maintained that the assurances given by the Speaker are quite motivating and express hope that the problems presented will find a lasting solution, adding, “our take home, cannot take us out of the gate”
The Chairman of PASAN also listed several other problems to includes, Staff who are seconded to the Assembly but are yet to be given due attention, the absence of a reliable financial purse for the Association among others, she therefore urged the Speaker to use his good office to help Staff of the Assembly to be at pal with their colleagues in other States.
