C’River House of Assembly pays tribute to deceased Medical Students, Calls for investigation

 

The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, today began the plenary by paying  tribute to the three medical students, Ms. Aisha Celestine Ogwu, Mustaphar Tukur, and Hamza Kabir who were victims of the unfortunate incident of boat mishap that occurred at the Marina Resort over the weekend. 

The house observed a moment of silence, and prayed for the peaceful repose of thier souls.

The speaker further lend his voice to the call for proper investigation into the circumstances and apppropriate legal action for such negligence, adding that as much as it was an act of God, it was also an avoidable occurrence if all safety measures were followed.

The Speaker sent his warmth and condolences to the families, friends and members of the University of Calabar Community.

In his words “I am deeply pained and saddened by the news of the demise of these promising students. The pain and grief in the hearts of their parents and loved ones cannot be assuaged by words. I appeal to all who have been affected by the loss to take solace in God. As the legislative arm of the government, we will support any executive action taken to investigate the issue.”
