Sen. Jarigbe Receives the ‘Oil for Sustainability’ Program Team at the National Assembly

 

The Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Committee on Gas, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, yesterday, received in courtesy, the leadership of Oil for Sustainability Program (OSP) a global Clean Cooking initiative team led by the Consultant to the Minister of Energy of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Gasem Fallatan, at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

According to the Consultant, the initiative aims to bring awareness to the benefits and altogether bridge in concert with private sector in Nigeria, the availability and accessibility gaps in adopting LPG for cooking, with a strategic plan that includes establishing micro-distributed points for retail outlets across the country.

He also disclosed that, the initiative will not only bring awareness to increase access to clean cooking solutions but also empowers unemployed youths by creating job opportunities as volunteer trainees within the program.

Receiving the team on behalf of the Nigerian Senate, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Gas, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, commended the team for carrying out the all important initiative. The lawmaker noted that, the Clean Fuel Solutions for Cooking initiative recognizes the urgent need to shift away from the traditional and hazardous cooking practices, which pose severe health risks to communities. By advocating for cleaner cooking alternatives such as LPG and renewable energy, the OSPs initiative will further help to mitigate the health and environmental risks, ultimately saving countless lives.

He pledged the Senate’s support and collaboration with the team in a bid to ensure overall success of their vision to see the clean cooking transition in Nigeria,  which is part of the vision of the President Tinubu’s led Nigerian government.
