PDP Announces Businessman, Asue Ighodalo Winner Of Edo Governorship Primary

A former Chairman of Sterling Bank, Asue Ighodalo, on Thursday, emerged the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party primary election in Edo State.

This was stated by the Chairman of the Edo PDP Primary Electoral Committee, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State on Thursday, claiming that Asue Ighodalo defeated about nine other aspirants including the Deputy Governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, in the poll. 
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced a popular businessman, Asue Ighodalo, as the party’s elected candidate during the governorship primary elections in Edo State.
This was stated by the Chairman of the Edo PDP Primary Electoral Committee, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State on Thursday, claiming that Asue Ighodalo defeated about nine other aspirants including the Deputy Governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, in the poll. 
 It was learnt that the primary election was held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in the Edo State capital with Ighodalo polling 577 votes to emerge as the state’s ruling party’s governorship candidate for the September 2024 election.
 “I, therefore, declare Asuelimen Ighodalo the winner of this concluded primary today with a total vote of 577. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen,” Governor Dauda was quoted by Channels TV. 
 “Therefore, I hereby return him elected as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the upcoming election in Edo State. My brother, congratulations,” the governor added. 
 Meanwhile, the All Progressive Congress(APC) is yet to determine its flag bearer for the state gubernatorial election. 
 Recall that the party earlier declared its primary election which was held on Saturday in Edo State inconclusive and replaced the Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as the chairman of the State Primary Election Committee. 
 A circular issued by Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, APC National Organising Secretary on Wednesday which SaharaReporters obtained, named Senator Bassey Otu as the new Chairman. 
 The election conducted by Uzodimma was declared as flawed after three winners emerged as the APC governorship candidates.
 The new election is slated to be concluded Thursday.
