EFCC not investigating Betta Edu on N30bn misappropriation

reports have emerged, stating that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is not investigating suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, over the alleged misappropriation of N30 billion.

According to a report by The Guardian Newspaper on Monday, the Anti-Graft Agency has issued a clarifying statement regarding ongoing investigations involving Dr Edu, shedding light on misconceptions and misinformation circulating on on social media platforms.

The report said contrary to rumours, the EFCC has confirmed that the investigation pertains to a significantly amount, specifically N587 million – which led to Edu’s suspension.

SaharaReporters and Channels TV in seperate reports, had reported, saying the EFCC has confirmed the recovery of N30 billion from the public funds allegedly looted under the watch of the suspended Minister, adding that the agency is also probing at least 50 bank accounts with the recovered N30 billion now in the Federal Government’s coffers.

However, the recent report by The Guardian stated further that the EFCC emphasised that “Betta Edu is not associated with any scrutiny related to funds transferred to 50 bank accounts.

The distinction between her case and another individual, Halima Shehu, who is being investigated for misappropriating 44.8 billion Naira without any official approvals, has been made clear.” “It’s crucial to acknowledge the significance of transparency and accuracy in such matters, especially concerning individuals in public positions.

The EFCC clarification serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying information before accepting it as truth, particularly in an era where misinformation can spread rapidly across various social media platforms,” the report stated.
