In an effort to alleviate economic challenges faced by residents, the member representing Etung State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Isong Kingsley Ntui, in company of the Commissioner for Health, Dr Egbe Ayuk, the Special Adviser Asset Management & Recovery, Barr Gilbert Agbor, and prominent stakeholders including Ntufam Gabe Odu Oji, launched a comprehensive palliative distribution initiative in Etung Local Government Area of the state.

Held on 28th July, 2024, at the Etung Local Government Headquarters of Efffraya, the distribution attracted a large gathering of local residents, community leaders and government officials.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Ntui emphasized the dire need for such interventions, particularly in light of the economic challenges, highlighting the Cross River State Government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens.

On his part, Dr Ayuk, addressed the crowd, highlighting the dual objectives of the palliative distribution program, stressing that while the primary goal was to provide immediate relief to those in need, the initiative also included health awareness campaigns, especially in rural communities, to prevent the spread of diseases and promote overall well-being.

Barr. Agbor also provided a detailed account of the logistical planning involved in the palliative distribution, outlining the rigorous processes undertaken to ensure that the relief materials reached the most vulnerable populations in Etung, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to transparency and efficiency in resource distribution.

A respected figure in Etung, Ntufam Oji, also played a crucial role in mobilizing local support and facilitating the distribution process between the government officials and the local populace.

Several beneficiaries shared their stories and appreciation. A peasant farmer expressed her relief and gratitude upon receiving the food items, which she said would sustain her family for several weeks.

In addition to distributing palliatives, the event also served as a platform for advocating peace and unity within the community. The assembly member concluded the event by outlining future plans aimed at sustaining the support for Etung residents.
