The 2023 National Population and Housing Census which is billed to hold this year(2023), will set the pace for a revolution in data gathering in the country and continent in general.

The upcoming census will be the first in 17 years after the country had previously conducted manual censuses in 1962, 1962/63, 1973, 1991, and 2006. This year’s edition will be coming with various twists.

With the Introduction of Digital elements to the process, the Exercise is set to be the largest of its kind in Africa.

The following has been achieved thus far by the commission;

– Training of about 885,000 field enumerators to conduct the dual purpose census; population and housing.

-Deliniation of 773 local government Areas out of 774

-Partnership with UNFPA and EU

-Creation of a hybrid enumeration strategy.

-Implementation of satellite imagery.

The NPC which is one of Nigeria’s largest database, will be leading a revolution of digitalised data gathering and accessing across the continent with this move.
