Succor came the way of Casual staff of General Hospital, Okpoma Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, when news of the indebtedness of the medical facility got to the ears of the Lawmaker representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, Hon. Godwin Offiono.
The casual staff, pay-rolled by the hospital through internally generated revenue, were unpaid for two months before the intervention of Hon. Godwin Offiono who cleared both June and July salaries of all casual workers comprising of Laborers, Securities, Nurses, Ward Orderlies, Messengers, and Laboratory Technicians.
Hon. Offiono, swiftly swung into action and oaid off the 2 months salary. Represented by Mr Otis Alfred during the cash presentation, He urged the staff to remain dedicated to their duties of serving humanity and saving lives.
In an appreciation message by the staff, they thanked the Lawmaker for the kind gesture and prayed for his continuous success in all endeavours of life.
On behalf of the workers, the kind gesture of the Honorable MP was received by the Managing Director (MD) of the facility, Dr. Gabriel Egbai, who sympathized with the workers and revealed that they were not paid because of the inability of the Hospital to generate income due to inadequate equipment and dilapidated facilities.
The Lawmaker also promised to continue to pay the salary of all casual workers in order to lift the burden off the hospital. He also promised to work with relevant stakeholders and agencies in making sure the hospital is properly equipped.
