Hon. Godwin Offiono visits warring Ugaga and Igbekurikor, IDPs, distributes Palliatives, sues for peace..

 

The member representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, Hon. Godwin Offiono visited warring Ugaga and Igbekurikor communities in Yala LGA of Cross River State, to plead for peace between the sister communities. 

The Honourable member was represented by his Constituency Officer, Dr. Raphael Ogar Oko, who delivered the MP’s message to both communities and the Internally Displaced Persons,in their respective gathering and camps. 

Hon. Offiono who before the outbreak of the unfortunate crisis, has been in talking terms with both communities, calling for peace and the need to recognize themselves as one in Yala and shouldn’t be seen fighting over land. 

The MP pleaded for ceasefire as it is disgraceful for fellow Yala people to take to arms against each other. According to him, no matter the provocation whatsoever, taking to arms to kill one another should not be considered as it will not settle the dispute but leave a lasting and regrettable history. 

The MP also, distributed food items to both communities to cushion the effects of hunger since they were unable to access their farm lands to source for food, for fear of being attacked. The MP also visited and presented food items to some Internally Displaced Persons in Ochochi, Olachor Okpudu, Ugaga and other camps, and directed medical personnel to continue to attend to those injured. He promised to remain in communication with elders and youths of the two communities, and the government in finding lasting solution to the matter.
