The Rivers State Government has stated that it is not deterred by the occupation of the council secretariat of the 23 local government areas of the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications in the state, Hon. Joseph Johnson, who spoke in Port Harcourt, while reacting to the state by Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said government is interest in peace.
Egbetokun had said men of the police force would maintain the blockade at the council secretariat till the cases on appeal are concluded.
However, Johnson, in Port Harcourt, said the occupation of the council secretariats was not affecting the activities of the local government councils and their Caretaker Committee members in the state.
“It is not affecting the activities of the local government chairmen. The matters in court are not infinito, they will end one day. The Appeal Court has adjourned for tomorrow.
“What I can tell you is that the government is on top of the situation. The inability of the CTC chairmen to gain access into the council, we are on top of it.
“In days to come the governor will proffer solution to it. For now, the governor’s interest is peace. So for now we should maintain law and order.
“It is not disturbing because it is not affecting the activities of the newly sworn in caretakers. It is a matter of time everything will settle.”
