Nigerian Army Refutes False Recruitment Allegations Of Jihadists

The Nigerian Army, NA, has responded to an audio-visual recording circulating online that falsely suggests it is recruiting Islamic fundamentalists and jihadists.

The footage according to the Director Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu also falsely portrayed an officer calling on Muslim young men to join the military to protect and propagate Islam.

The Army clarified that the narrative in the video does not reflect its true values and standards. It emphasized that the recording aims to create anxiety, sow discord among personnel, and undermine public trust in the Army’s integrity, particularly among Christian and non-Muslim communities in the country.

Stressing its commitment to professionalism and impartiality, the Army stated that “its actions are guided by the Constitution of Nigeria, not by ethnicity or religious bias.”

It urged the public to disregard the misleading report, attributing it to a misunderstanding of the Army’s Standing Operating Procedures (SOP).

The Army reiterated that any deviation from its SOP results in appropriate disciplinary measures, irrespective of religious affiliation.

It therefore called on citizens to unite above divisive tactics, emphasizing Nigeria’s strength in diversity.

The Army affirmed its dedication to upholding principles and serving all Nigerians, regardless of religious or ethnic background, to maintain national peace and unity.

It called on all citizens to rise above divisive tactics and stand united as the strength of Nigeria lies in unity and diversity, a unique national strength and trait which the Army seeks to protect while carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.

The Army reiterated its unwavering commitment to uphold its enduring principles in the face of adversity, assuring that it remains steadfast in its pledge to serve and protect all Nigerians, regardless of their religious or ethnic backgrounds.

Together, let us collaborate to uphold the peace and unity of our great nation,” the Army added.
