House of Reps to probe escape of Binance executive from custody

 


The House of Representatives on Wednesday resolved to probe the mysterious escape of an executive of a cryptocurrency exchange company, Binance, Nadeem Anjarwalla, in a security breach which occurred while in a guest house under the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

This followed the adoption of a motion moved by Hon Dominic Okafor, at the Plenary session presided over by the Speaker Hon Tajudeen Abbas.

The House also resolved to invite the National Security adviser to explain the circumstances that led to such a despicable escape of a high-profile suspect from his office.

The House further mandated the NSA to hand over the investigation of its personnel involved in the escape of Nadeem Anjarwalla to the Department of State Services as it cannot be a judge in its own case.


Also, the House mandated the Director General of the Department of State Services to take over the investigation and prosecution of personnel found complicit in the escape of Nadeem Anjarwalla.


While moving the motion, the Lawmaker said, “Notes: that the Federal Republic of Nigeria arrested and detained Nadeem Anjarwalla, an executive of a cryptocurrency exchange company, Binance on February 26, 2024, for alleged complicity of the company in money laundering and terrorism financing.

According to him, “also Notes that the two Binance executives were billed to appear in court on April 4, 2024, to answer to the alleged crimes against Nigeria before the security breach occurred which led to the escape of one of the company’s executives in a very scandalous dimension.
