President Tinubu restates commitment to conducting Census, appoints NPC Commissioners

President Tinubu has pledged his commitment towards conducting  National Population Census soon in Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu has assured the National Population Commission (NPC) of the Federal Government’s support to conduct the botched census in the country.

The President gave the assurance on Wednesday, at the launch of the National Geospatial Data Repository, Digital CRVS System, and inauguration of the National Coordination Committee for CRVS at the Presidential Villa Abuja.

While calling for collaboration among Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of government, Tinubu underscored the relevance of data to national growth.

He called on the census experts to deploy cutting-edge technology in gathering data on Nigeria’s population, saying the nation cannot afford to lag behind in efficient data sourcing.

According to the President, Nigeria has a lot to be grateful for because it is not prone to natural disasters.

The President also appointed 20 individuals to serve as federal commissioners in the National Population Commission (NPC) ahead of Nigeria’s much anticipated national population census.

The appointment was announced late Wednesday by Tinubu’s senior media adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, who revealed that nine of the appointees were being reappointed for a second term.

Recall that the immediate past administration of Presodent Muhammadu Buhari had commenced plans towards the conduct of national census by releasing funds.  Large parts of funds deployed by NPC in the preliminary stages of the census collation, the Federal Government had to postpone the exercise owing to other factors.
