Senate Confirms Musa Aliyu As ICPC Chairman

 

The Senate has screened and thereafter confirmed the appointment of Mr. Musa Aliyu as Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practises and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Also screened and confirmed at the plenary on Thursday were Prof.Gaji Dantata and Saka Suleiman as members of the Federal Judicial Service Commission representing Kano and Kwara states.

Their screening and confirmation followed the consideration and approval of a motion by Senate Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC-Ekiti), at the Committee of the Whole.

Before their screening and confirmation, the Senate suspended its rule to allow the admission of the nominees and other guests into the chamber.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Abdullahi Gumel, led the nominees into the chamber.

Thereafter, the nominees gave highlights of their career profiles and professional experiences.

The nominee for ICPC Chairman, Aliyu, who is the current Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in Jigawa State, said he has embarked on far-reaching judicial reforms as the Attorney General of Jigawa State since September 2019.

Aliyu said he holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees in law. He was also named a Senior Advocate of Nigeria-designate in October 2023.

Aliyu said if confirmed as Chairman of the ICPC, he would live by example in the investigation and fight against corruption.

He said he would be firm, fair and humble on issues relating to investigation and fight against corruption

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, who presided over plenary in his remarks after their confirmation, said their appointment was a call to service.

He urged them not to disappoint Mr. President and Nigerians while urging them to give their best to the service of the country.
