…There is no substitute to dialogue in conflict resolution, war is not an option – Hon. Godwin Offiono

Following the crisis between Ijiegu Community in Yache ward of Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State and Tongor Community in Konshisha LGA of Benue State, the Member House of Representatives for Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency of Cross River State has pleaded with both Communities to give peace a chance as war is not and can never be the best option for dispute resolution.

The Member who has been in constant communication with the DPO of Yala LGA, SP. Njah Paulinus, the Area Commander, Ogoja, ACP. Godwin Etim, his Constituents in Ijiegu-Yache through the Clan Head of Maa Clan, HRH Imohie Isaac Omaji, and the Youth Leader, Daniel Ochala, appealed for peaceful dialogue between both Communities as war will only leave indelible damage and bitter history between them. He was assured that, there will be peaceful resolution by the Area Commander and DPO.

Furthermore, Hon. Godwin Offiono also drew the attention of his colleague, Hon. Sesoo Ikpagher, Member representing Konshisha/Vandeikya Federal Constituency of Benue State to also intervene and advise his people to embrace peace.

And to cushion the effect of the crisis that has prevented Ijiegu people from accessing their farm lands to get food, Hon. Godwin Offiono donated food items to the Community while he continues to interface with other stakeholders at the Federal and State level to find lasting solutions.

In response, the Clan Head, HRH Imohie Isaac Omaji acknowledged the timely intervention of the MP especially for sending them relief packages. He re-echoed the MP’s love and constant support for the Good People of Yache and pleaded that, the MP should initiate a legislative process that will enable Tongor People leave their land for the sake of peace, because they have encroached into their land which is the reason for the current crisis.
