…Directs SSG to Ensure Census is Given Top Priority
Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has pledged his commitment to the successful conduct of the forthcoming population and housing census.
Eno made the declaration during a meeting with the directorate staff of the Federal Civil Service at the Akwa Ibom Liaison Office in Abuja on Wednesday.
The meeting was also attended by the Honourable Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, Akwa Ibom State, Chief (Engr.) Benedict Ukpong FNSE, Okete Okete Oro.
Ukpong commended Eno’s intention to run an inclusive government that will create an enabling environment for the people of Akwa Ibom State across party-lines and ethnic specifications. He also used the medium to brief the governor on the preparedness of the commission to conduct the First-in-History Digital and Green Census that will yield an accurate, reliable, and acceptable results to the satisfaction of all Nigerians.
Eno in his response applauded the NPC Federal Commissioner for all the good works he has done for the successful conduct of census in the state. While pleading for unity and solidarity across party-lines, Eno charged the Federal appointees of Akwa Ibom State extraction to use their lofty positions to draw good treasures, projects and opportunities for the betterment of our dear State.
The governor in his response, appreciated all the directorate staff and stakeholders in attendance and assured them of his readiness to partner with them for the benefit of a greater Akwa Ibom. He promised to appoint a permanent secretary for the liaison office in Abuja who would, beyond the liaison officer, become a bridge between the State and Akwa Ibom people.
To further reiterate his commitment to support Census activities in the state, Eno directed the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, to ensure that the forth coming Census is given a top priority by working closely with the Hon. Federal Commissioner.
The governor’s pledge is a welcome development and it is important that all stakeholders in Akwa Ibom State work together to ensure that the census is a success. The census is an important exercise that will determine the allocation of resources to the state and it is important that all voices are heard.
