Yesterday, a requiem mass was held at the Church of Assumption in Asokoro, Abuja to honor the memory of the late Senator Dr. Joseph Wayas. The mass, requested by his wife, Mrs. Catherine Ishaka Wayas, was a solemn occasion that brought together dignitaries from across Nigeria.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Jake Otonko, in his homily, celebrated Dr. Wayas’ life and legacy, highlighting his numerous achievements as a politician and statesman.
Dr. Wayas, who hails from Obanliku, was a trailblazer in many ways – the first renowned politician from Obanliku, the first commissioner, and the first Senate President from old Cross River State and the entire South-South region.
The mass was attended by prominent personalities, including Senator Kanu Agabi, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, and many others. Dr. Wayas’ family, including his wife and children, were also in attendance.
As Nigeria bids farewell to this iconic leader, his legacy continues to inspire and motivate. Dr. Joseph Wayas may be gone, but his impact on the lives of Nigerians will never be forgotten.
