The State Legislature has adopted a resolution calling on the Executive to revive Bebi Airstrip and other tourist sites across the State to enhance the tourism potentials of the State.
The House adopted the resolution following a Motion moved by the Member representing Calabar South 11, Hon. Victor Ekpenyong who bemoaned the deplorable condition of most of the tourist sites across the State.
The Lawmakers recalled that, in past years, Cross River State was globally acclaimed for its tourist sites, including the Obudu Ranch Resort, Agbokim waterfall, Nkarasi Monoliths, the Marina Resort, Mary Slessor House, Tinapa Business and Leisure Resort amongst others.
He further recalled that the Obudu mountain race had attracted athletes from across the globe and emphasized the need for the reactivation of all the tourist sites.
Contributing to the debate, the Deputy Majority Leader and Member Representing Abi State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Davis Etta reiterated that Cross River was once internationally acclaimed for its tourism sites.
He stressed the urgent need for the tourism industry to be invigorated to enhance the internally generated revenue of the State.
In his contribution the Member Representing Etung State Constituency Hon. Kingsley Ntui observed that the reactivation of the tourism industry in the State will not only generate income but will also create employment opportunities for the youths.
Other Lawmakers, in their separate contributions, supported the Motion and unanimously voted for it.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the Assembly Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem regretted that the tourist sites of the State have been neglected.
He described the Obudu Ranch Resort as second to none in the world and emphasized the urgent need for it’s s reactivation.
